Fighting Hate Crime
Fighting Hate Crime
The United States is facing a steep and concerning increase in hate crime incidents and John is committed to fighting hate crime in all its forms. He has always focused on lifting up – and protecting -- our entire community. As US Attorney, in response to the Mother Emanuel Church shootings in Charleston, South Carolina, John created and led a community engagement program called Protecting Houses of Worship and worked with key community organizations like the Anti-Defamation League to foster engagement with law enforcement and provide faith leaders from all religious faiths to keep their communities safe from hate. John took the program to synagogues, mosques, and churches all across Colorado, and the program continues to this day.
In his work to combat hate crime, John has also engaged in extensive personal outreach to our Latino community and Spanish-speaking communities, the Black community, the LGBTQIA+ community, the Jewish community, the Muslim community, our two Colorado Indian tribes and the American Indian community in Denver, among many other efforts.
